Stratford Shopping Centre transformed into a scrumdiddlyumptious wonderland this Easter weekend and amazing prizes were won!

On Saturday 15th April, a sticky-sweet confection of family fun and enjoyable activities landed on Central Square at Stratford Shopping Centre as the time finally came to enter the FREE chocolate Wonderland!

Shoppers stepped into a world of pure imagination, filled with candy cane hills, giant props and yummy inventions.

Children were encouraged to partake in delicious workshops to craft extra tasty treats to take home. A tasting area was available for children to decorate their very own scrumdiddlyumtious chocolate bar with snap, crackle and pop toppings. Children also grabbed lab coats and a pair of testing goggles in the invention room and mixed together various ingredients to create their very own experiment.

Stratford Shopping Centre announced as a Silver winner in the Zero Waste Scheme

Stratford Shopping Centre was announced as a Silver winner in the Zero Waste Scheme, celebrating the fantastic work that organisations are doing to drive down waste from landfill.

The Zero Waste Awards, organised by the Environment Media Group, aren’t competitive and entrants are judged purely on their merits. Winners are awarded with gold, silver, bronze or highly commended for their efforts to prevent waste at source within their organisations.

Entries are welcomed all year round for this ongoing awards scheme, with the next round of entries open until August 2016.

Speaking of the achievement, Stratford Shopping Centre, Deputy Centre Manager, Tony Whitehorn said: “We are thrilled to have been acknowledged by the Zero Waste Awards for the initiatives that we have applied to create a more sustainable environment by making the most of our resources and reducing waste. The whole team at Stratford Shopping Centre work extremely hard all year round and fully deserve this award for their efforts.”

One of the judges, Karen Cannard, creator and co-founder of the Rubbish Diet Challenge said:

“The Zero Waste Awards recognises leadership and action amongst those who are working hard to create a more sustainable and resourceful economy, embedding ambitious waste reduction practices into the heart of their organisations.”

Dan Magness – World Record Breaker

On Saturday 18th June, top Football Freestyler and TV presenter Dan Magness came to Stratford Shopping Centre to showcase his phenomenal football tricks and attempted to break a Guinness World Record.  We are proud to announce that at 11:47am Dan began his attempt to do just that and after a nerve racking 17 minutes Dan did just that – completing 1,138 consecutive football touches using just his shoulders. The crowd when wild as Dan announced that a New Guinness World Record had been achieved.*

The attempt was part of Stratford’s Dad’s Den event where men who hate shopping could relax in the man-haven decked out in an astro turf garden complete with iPad tables, game consoles and  giant football pool.

*Subject to Guinness World Record approval.
